Metallized BOPE Film | Biaxially Oriented Barrier Film

Metallized BOPE film is built on a biaxially oriented polyethylene base web with a vacuum-deposited aluminum layer. Orientation in both the machine and transverse directions gives BOPE something non-oriented PE films cannot offer: balanced mechanical properties. Tensile strength, toughness, and dimensional stability are improved in both directions, and the oriented base web also delivers better optics — a brighter, more uniform metallic appearance after metallization.

That balance matters in real converting. Pouches need transverse-direction toughness to survive drops and handling; printing and lamination need a web that behaves predictably in both directions. BOPE covers both, while the PE base keeps the direct heat sealability that makes metallized PE attractive for simplified structures.

Thickness lineup

Standard thicknesses are 25 and 30 μm, with an extended available range of 20–125 μm for applications outside the standard lineup. The 25 μm gauge is the workhorse for flexible packaging; heavier gauges serve applications needing extra body or barrier contribution from the base web itself.

• Food packaging — pouches where toughness and sealability must coexist, including demanding formats
• Daily-chemical packaging — sachets and pouches with a premium metallic look
• Electronics packaging — protective barrier wraps where a balanced, stable web matters
• Agricultural packaging — films and covers for agricultural use

When to choose BOPE

Choose BOPE when LDPE feels too soft and HDPE feels too stiff — when you need balanced strength rather than maximum rigidity, or when the converting process (printing, lamination, pouch-making) benefits from a web that behaves the same in both directions. If your priority is machine-direction strength above all, look at MDOPE instead.
